Things here are looking up. I came down with the stomach flu Tuesday night which ended in an unexpected trip to emerg where they treated me for dehydration. I am of course scared for the little bean that is in there while I was heaving all the nutrients out of me for 24 hours. The dr’s in emerg did do a quick ultrasound and although there wasn’t much movement our bean still had a heartbeat. I am feeling much better and am taking a few days off work to recover. I haven’t had a stomach bug for years! I forgot how awful it is.
We had our first appoint in our ob’s clinic on Monday. All of our appointments have been on the high risk floor of the hospital with the fancy ultrasound machines. I am now with all the “normal” pregnant women. He also took a quick look to make sure all was good. We’ve had 8 peeks at our baby since we discovered we were pregnant and I’m only 15 weeks. I can’t get enough!
To find out the sex or not……what a tough decision! We asked our doctor about finding out the sex of our baby. He said he could give us his guess but it would be best to wait till our 20 week ultrasound since by that time it would be a 98% accuracy rate. Our 20 week ultrasound is booked for March 22nd.
We had some visitors here on the weekend with their two small children. It was nice to have kids running around our house. It gives me a glimpse of what a bit of family chaos would be like. Our lives are so calm and organized, with a schedule that doesn’t get interrupted very often. The sound of little feet, screaming, laughing and jitterish baby conversation soothes me and helps me recognize that this pregnancy is real and this could be us someday soon.
Things are good though. I’m still scared. I still worry every day. But things have been good.

Fourth ultrasound in 3 months...
I had another ultrasound this week. My fourth in 3 months and we have another one booked for Thursday. I had a bit of spotting on the weekend which gave me another scare (it really was hardly anything). When I called the doctor he seemed unconcerned about it. He told me that if it got worse and there was cramping to call again. So instead I called my natural path. She had me come straight in and she did this crazy acupuncture with a pipe that blows some kind of heat at different points of my body. Amazingly it all stopped later that day.
By mid week I was feeling like I was slowly peeing my pants. By the end of the day I felt like I needed a diaper. So I called the doctor again at this point he just said come in at the end of the day for an ultrasound. He wanted to get some measurements as well but baby was way too busy. Jumping, twirling, bouncing, and waving putting on a big show for us. All this going on in my uterus and I couldn’t feel a thing. So he couldn’t get his measurements and called us in on Thursday. Danny asked if having so many ultrasounds would harm our baby. He assured us that it was fine and that women who are pregnant with twins often have a lot more throughout a pregnancy.
I read my file at the hospital while we were waiting for the doctor to see us. I only seen the letter that he had written about us. In it he mentioned 3 times that I am a very anxious patient. I guess it’s visible.
I had no idea that pregnant woman are not suppose to eat certain cheese. I love cheese and have spent the last 3 months eating whatever cheese I wanted. I am now, of course, worried of a cheese bacteria. Apparently it is only a “risk”.
Anyways, things are good. My energy levels are back, my appetite even more. I’ve put 8 pounds on in my first trimester and am out of all my jeans now. I feel better nerve wise but still have moments. Wish there was something that could reassure me that everything is going to be okay other than my husband’s words every couple hours. Poor Danny….he must be going crazy with my erratic behavior.

Still hanging in there.....
We have almost made it to 12 weeks. I go in next week for my thirteen week ultrasound. They have followed me every two weeks throughout my first trimester. It truly is amazing when you are following a fetus that closely. Week 8 the baby had arm and leg buds and by 10w 6d the baby had full legs, arms, knees and elbows. The baby didn’t put a show on for us only gave us a bit of a wave. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress on the next ultrasound.
I had a bit of spotting again over the weekend. It was enough to notice…. which is enough to make me worry. I also had a lot of light cramping, pelvic pain and just kinda felt yucky. I called my naturalpath right away. She told me to come in which I appreciated considering it was a Sunday. I don’t totally understand what she does but I do know that I’ve been seeing her since May about infertility and I’m now pregnant so I trust her and all she does. She did a bunch of different treatments with acupuncture. By the next day everything felt fine. She has told me that the baby is a girl. I’m interested to see if she will be right.
We have struggled over the last few weeks on making a decision about whether we want to know the sex of the baby. I’m very mixed. I would like to know because of all we’ve been through to get to this point, the fun in shopping and preparing and wrapping my head around the idea of finally having a son or daughter. I’m having a hard time believing even now after knowing for 2 months that this is really happening for us. Due to the fact that we are being seen on the “high risk” floor at the hospital (even though they assured us we are not high risk it is just where our doctors office is). At our next appointment they will be able to guess the sex. I’m leaning toward no but we will see.
So things are good and were hanging in there. I’m looking forward to next Thursday to see our little bean again.
I still shake my head at all this…….
